Why Edzná?
An hour south of Campeche city, Edzná delivers big-temple drama without Calakmul's drive time. The Temple of the Five Stories rises above a wide plaza — one of the most photogenic sites in the state, especially in morning light.
Quick facts
| Drive from Campeche centro | ~45–60 minutes |
| Typical visit | 2–3 hours |
| Best time | Open at 8:00 — arrive early for shade and photos |
| Facilities | Visitor path, limited shade — hat and water essential |
What to see
Walk the Great Acropolis complex, Platform of the Stele, and the ball court. The site is compact compared to Calakmul but vertically impressive — allow time to sit in the plaza and read the signage (Spanish primarily).
Getting there
- Rental car: Easiest; parking at the site entrance.
- Taxi / private driver: Agree on wait time and round-trip price from Campeche.
- Organized tour: Useful if you prefer commentary and fixed schedule.
Combine with
Pair with a Champotón seafood lunch on the return leg, or a quiet afternoon back in the walled city. For a longer ruin focus, see Calakmul.
Practical notes
Midday heat is intense Mar–May. Light rain can make limestone slick — watch steps on the acropolis.
